Timeless Religious Readings for a Traditional Wedding Ceremony

If an engaged couple are religious they do not have to have their wedding ceremony in a church.

Independent Wedding Celebrants will write and deliver personal wedding ceremonies that include prayers or religious readings as well as a non-religious Humanist style wedding ceremony.

If you’re planning a traditional or religious wedding ceremony, incorporating a reading from your faith can be a beautiful way to celebrate your love and beliefs or to honour your family.

As a Sheffield Wedding Celebrant, I’ve had the honour of including readings from a variety of faith traditions, ensuring the ceremony is both personal, spiritual and meaningful for the couple. Below is a well-loved religious reading that might be the perfect addition to your ceremony.

Chelsea and Dom had their legal marriage ceremony in a church with just immediate family present and then the next day chose to have me to be their wedding celebrant at Farbridge in the beautiful Sussex South Downs. They chose to have 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 read by bridesmaid, Reilly.

1 Corinthians Chapter 13

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
